Glossary

Every term that appears on TipTop, explained in plain language. If something on the site is unclear, it is probably here.

A tiptoper's numbers

Odds
What a winning bet pays back, including the original stake. Odds of 2.50 mean one unit returns 2.5 — a profit of 1.5. The higher the odds, the less likely the outcome is considered. ⚠️ On TipTop the tiptoper does not set the odds: they are pulled from real bookmakers and locked in automatically.
Average odds
The average odds across every tip a tiptoper published that has settled — the winners and the losers alike. This is the number that makes a win rate readable: 42% at odds of 3.10 is worth far more than 85% at 1.15.
Return
How much each unit staked returned on average. +20% means every unit came back as 1.2. It is the number shown next to every tiptoper instead of win rate, because you can win 85% of your tips and still lose money if the odds are too short. Elsewhere it is called yield or ROI.
Unit · recommended stake
A number between 1 and 10 the tiptoper puts next to a tip, saying how confident they are in it relative to their other tips. A unit is not a fixed amount of money — each person decides what it is worth to them. ⚠️ It is not the price: the price is fixed and unrelated to units.
Record
How many tips came true out of how many settled, for example 7/11. The raw number the win rate is derived from.
Win rate
What share of settled tips came true. ⚠️ On TipTop it is not shown at all below 5 settled tips — “100% win rate” on two tips is a true number that means nothing.
Sample
How many tips have settled in total. A small sample means the numbers can still move a great deal, which is why we hide percentages below the threshold and do not rank on them.
Streak · last 5
A tiptoper's last five results, as ✓ and ✕. It does not replace the numbers — but it shows a trend that an overall average hides.
Settled
A tip whose match has finished and whose outcome is known — it came true or it did not. Until then it is “awaiting match” and counts towards no statistic.

Bet types

Match winner
Who wins: the home side, the away side, or a draw. The most basic and most common bet. Other sites sometimes write 1X21 home, X draw, 2 away.
Over / under
How many goals are scored in the match **in total**, regardless of who wins. “Over 2.5” means three goals or more. The half exists to rule out a tie: you cannot score 2.5 goals.
Both teams to score
Whether **both** sides score at least one goal. Again, the outcome does not depend on who wins.
Total corners
How many corners are awarded in the match, to both sides combined, regardless of who wins. An average match ends around 10, which is why the lines run from 7.5 to 12.5 rather than around 2.5 as they do for goals. ⚠️ Unlike the other markets, this result does not come from the match page but from its statistics, so it can arrive slightly after the final whistle.
First half
The same kind of bet, but on the state of the match at half time only.
Favourite · underdog
The favourite is the side with the shorter odds — the one considered more likely to win. The underdog is the opposite: longer odds, a smaller chance, and a bigger payout if it happens.
Value
The idea that the odds are longer than the true chance of the outcome. A tiptoper who finds value can win fewer than half their tips and still return a profit. That is exactly why the ranking accounts for the odds of every tip, not just the win rate.

Money and payment

Escrow
Where the money sits from the moment you buy a tip until the match ends. It has left your available balance and has not reached the tiptoper.
Called off or postponed
The **only** case in which the payment is refunded in full and automatically. That is a service failure — not a wrong guess.
Platform fee
30% of every tip sold. ⚠️ It comes out of the tiptoper's share and is not added to what the buyer pays.
$ tip (gratuity)
⚠️ “Tip” means two things here, so we mark the money one with a dollar sign. A tip (no sign) is the prediction itself — the thing being sold. A $ tip is an amount a buyer chooses to send a tiptoper after a tip settles, voluntarily and on top of the price. It is never required and never affects the ranking.

General terms

Tiptoper
Someone who publishes tips on the site. Anyone can be one — you start with free tips, and only once 3 of them have come true does charging unlock.
Levels: New · Starter · Advanced · Expert
The level comes from actual performance — return and the number of settled tips — not from anything the tiptoper claims. You can drop a level exactly the way you climb one.
