How many tips it takes to judge a tiptoper

A tiptoper with 2 tips and two wins shows 100%. That number is true, and it says nothing — a third, losing tip would turn it into 67%. The same swing is barely noticeable for someone with 200 tips.

This is not unique to betting; it is how small samples behave. The difference is that here the small number appears in exactly the same place and font as a reliable one, so it looks equally certain. It is not.

On TipTop the choice was not to show it. Below 5 settled tips, no win rate is shown at all — only the raw record, for example 3/4. Below 5 tips there is no entry to the leaderboard either. Competitors offer this filter as an option the user has to know to switch on; here the system simply does not display a number without meaning.

How many is actually “enough”? The honest answer is that there is no single threshold. Dozens of tips give a direction, hundreds give reasonable confidence, and even then a bad run can be poor luck rather than decline. So it is worth looking at the streak — the last five results — and not only the overall average: a good average can hide a long stretch where everything stopped working.

The practical rule: do not be impressed by a percentage without checking how many tips stand behind it. On this site that number is always shown next to it, for exactly this reason.
